Alinéa sells over 25,000 home products in its 29 stores in France and e-commerce site for revenue exceeding 500 M€. The mission of Alinéa is to enrich home interiors and everyday life with a single commitment: offer trendy, quality products at an affordable price. Its Mediterranean character – the Alinéa brand was born in Southern France – is expressed through the love for colors, the savvy mix of different styles, the positive attitude, as well as the pride of Alinéa’s collections, creations and people.

    The Challenge

“We serve the most diversified needs of our customers with an extremely rich and personalized assortment,” explained Claire Sallé, Organizational Project Manager at Alinéa. “We manage thousands of products coming in different ranges (furniture and decoration), styles, materials and colors. Some are never-out-of-stock, some are seasonal. Some products are developed in-house by our Design & Style Department, others are co-developed with suppliers or picked from their catalogues.”
To cope with this complexity, and support the strong growth of the franchising and web channels, Alinéa embarked on a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) project. The initiative is intended to help further improve agility in product development and sourcing while rationalizing the process.
Alinéa invested in PLM with 4 main objectives:
    • Further improve time to market in a highly dynamic and competitive landscape
    • Simplify product development with better information sharing among functions and suppliers and no redundant activities
    • Further increase data reliability and centralization
    • Improve visibility across all collections with detailed line plans and progress monitoring at each step.

    The Solution

Alinéa selected TXTPLM as the best fit solution for their needs. “The project spans the organization,” noted Claire Sallé. “With TXTPLM we support the process from end-to-end: from planning the offer and defining its financial objectives, through more effective sharing of designers' inputs with buyers and suppliers, to centralizing the management of product and materials specifications.”

All stakeholders from the Design & Style Department, to the Sourcing, Buying, Quality and Logistics Departments access a single collaborative platform containing all product and suppliers information both for internally designed and outsourced products.
When products are internally designed, TXTPLM is fed
from the earliest creative phases with concepts, sketches, trend books, moods, styles and colors information. The solution contains technical designs and specifications and all information regarding possible suppliers and audited manufacturing sites that support production.
Buyers at Alinéa can immediately visualize products from suppliers’ catalogues, negotiate details and quantities, and ultimately select those products that will be part of their assortment.

In both situations (internally designed or outsourced products), Alinéa uses TXTPLM to manage all phases of development including specs modifications, costing, quality controls, samples requests, as well as to simulate transportation costs.

The Excel connector of TXTPLM supports effective collection planning with improved visibility on product mix (styles, range price, new products and carry-overs) providing deeper analysis of products and collections profitability.

“With TXTPLM we have been gaining in efficiency. The collection know-how is now all captured in the solution. Information is accurate and immediately available to all functions, we minimized manual tasks and low value activities. Collection plans are more structured and we can do analysis and reporting at all levels.” concluded Claire Sallé.
